19% of Physicians say Generative AI Undermines the Patient-Clinician Relationship

In a newly released report by Bain & Company, they found that while patients are increasingly open to the use of generative AI in healthcare, especially for diagnostic purposes, there remains a cautious approach among clinicians. Many clinicians are excited about AI’s potential to reduce administrative burdens, but there is concern about maintaining the personal touch in patient care.
At Health Note, we’ve seen clinicians balance this transition well. For instance, a pediatrician using the Health Note AI scribe has found that it has helped engage their patients and parents by showing how the technology assists in capturing and summarizing their visits, not only demystifying the tool but also bringing them into the process more. This approach has been a net benefit and helps preserve the trust connection and transparency central to patient care and satisfaction.

"Physicians and administrators feel a similar mix of excitement and apprehension. When surveyed, 43% of providers recognize generative AI’s potential to ease administrative burdens and lighten clinician workloads. But concerns remain—19% of physicians and 17% of administrators say the technology undermines the patient-clinician relationship."
